Nancy’s Pizzeria – World Class Authentic Chicago Deep Dish Pizzas

It’s National Pizza Day and there’s no better way to celebrate than with authentic Chicago stuffed crust pies! Recently my family and I got to experience Dunwoody’s newest restaurant, Nancy’s Pizzeria.  Their award-winning menu, unforgettable flavors and inviting atmosphere is something that just HAS to be experienced!

Nancy’s Pizzeria, the inventor of Chicago Stuffed Pizza, recently opened its Dunwoody location on January 31, 2019. The new restaurant, located within the Perimeter Village Shopping Center off Dunwoody Road, is the fifth Nancy’s Pizzeria in Georgia.

About Nancy’s Pizzeria

Nancy’s invented stuffed pizza. Period. Born during Chicago’s “Golden Age” of pizza, Nancy’s Signature Stuffed Pizza was invented by Rocco Palese and his wife, Annunziata (“Nancy”). The 2” thick stuffed pizza perfectly balances the rebellious spirit of 1970s America and centuries-old Italian traditions. When his patrons began asking for Chicago’s famous pan pizza, Rocco resisted the urge to imitate. Instead, he pulled inspiration from his Italian roots and layered cheese and toppings between two crusts creating a stuffed pizza pie. The stuffed pizza was born, and the rest, as they say, is Chicago pizza-making history. Since then, Nancy’s has opened a total of 35 restaurants throughout the country, while also maintaining its commitment to making Rocco’s authentic and original stuffed pizza.

“Nancy’s Stuffed Pizza is a pizza delicacy that needs to be enjoyed by all, not just Chicagoans. That is why we have worked so hard to continue to open new locations nationwide and especially in Atlanta,” said Dunwoody Franchisee Yves L. Dominique.  A resident of the greater Atlanta area by way of The Big Apple, Yves has spent most of his adult life in New York and was a professional on Wall Street. A few short years ago, Mr. Dominique crunched the numbers of his personal level of fulfillment and felt a deficit. He yearned for more. His career as a financial expert offered rewards and incentives, but he lacked the kind of connection with people and community where he could feel impactful. He moved to Atlanta in pursuit of a better quality of life and opportunity. After much thought, he took the path of restaurant ownership. Yves Dominique started the entrepreneurial journey towards being a McDonald’s Operator. Months of preparation and training, another opportunity presented itself. He was introduced to the home of the original stuffed pizza. After some research of the company and gaining a few pounds from his product testing, he joined the Atlanta market of Nancy’s franchisees. More than a year of kneading dough and stuffing pies, he is ready to open his doors. For Yves, it’s more than business ownership, but he finally gets to interact with the community he loves, serving not only delicious food but opportunity and resource for others.

“We hope the Dunwoody location becomes a new go-to for local pizza lovers and look forward to becoming part of the community.”

About the Corporate Chef

Kayla Howey is the corporate chef for Nancy’s Pizzeria and the food and hospitality director for Chicago Franchise Systems.  A graduate of the University of Illinois and an accredited and accomplished chef with a certificate from The Culinary Institute of America, Kayla joined Chicago Franchise Systems in her current roles and has been instrumental in the recent expansion and rebrand of Nancy’s Pizzeria.

As corporate chef, Kayla ensures that every Nancy’s Stuffed Pizza is made the exact same way Nancy’s founder, Rocco Palese, made the first stuffed pizza in 1971 – because there is no other way to make stuffed pizza.

Just like Rocco, Kayla strays from the predictable. She recently revamped Nancy’s original menu by putting a modern and exciting twist on classic choices. She also designed new menu items from salads to appetizers, with a focus on freshness and flavor – all of which is reflected in both the Dunwoody and Conyers locations.

Nancy’s Authentic Chicago Deep Dish Pies

After our recent visit, I can honestly say that words simply do not do it justice!  Having never tried a deep dish pie like this before, I had no idea what to expect other than knowing that Nancy’s is well known for them.

One thing you will want to know up front is that these pies are handcrafted and truly need time to cook.  If you are in a hurry, you may want to either call ahead and order your deep dish pie or try one of their other delectable menu items.  Depending on the fillings you request and how busy the restaurant is, you can easily wait anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.   But do not let that time deter you from going.  Nancy’s Pizzeria is just one of those unique pizzerias you HAVE to experience!

Nancy’s Pizzeria offers several topping combinations.  Whether you want to create your own or go with one of their signature deep-dish pies, one thing is for sure, you can count on one delicious pie! Deeper than I had anticipated and stuffed beyond measure with fillings, the cheese just oozed from this pie.

In addition to Nancy’s Signature Stuffed Pizza, the Dunwoody location will offer a substantial menu ranging from classic Nancy’s menu items with a modern twist to brand new, fresh and flavorful options.

Nancy’s Pizzeria is the kind of place that transforms a regular night out to dinner into a night that makes lifelong memories. Perfectly combining upscale posh and laid back atmosphere in their newest location in Dunwoody, Georgia, this casual restaurant gives you the feeling of walking into a place that knows how great it is but doesn’t take itself too seriously. That’s exactly the vibe my family and I felt when we visited Nancy’s Pizzeria for a night of great food and great company.
