Living in the southeast has its benefits especially when you want to travel. With so many places within driving distance from Atlanta, I can experience almost anything I want to. One of our favorite places to get away to is Gatlinburg, Tennessee. No matter how many times I have been to the area, and we’ve been there several times a year, I can always find a new adventure. Gatlinburg is just one of those places where one visit is simply not enough to take it all in!
Gatlinburg is unique in that it offers tourists a WIDE variety of things to do and places to visit. I know most of us that know this area think of such things as Ripley’s attractions, Ober Gatlinburg, or the Great Smoky Mountains as the things for people to experience. What you may not realize is that there is so much more to do than just those attractions. Now if you have not been to these places, you need to make a point of seeing these iconic attractions. The breathtaking views of the Great Smoky Mountains from this beautiful mountainside city are something you do not want to miss! But just like so many southern historic cities, Gatlinburg has undergone its own rebirth since the wildfires and is becoming a city that attracts everyone from millennials to families.
Gatlinburg Lodging and Trolley
One of the reasons why it is so inviting is due to its location and attractions. That being said, how do you select where to stay? Unlike any other tourist town, Gatlinburg offers everything from cabins to treehouses for lodging. If you want to stay right in the heart of the Smokies, there is a place for you. If you are looking to be right downtown where all the action is, they have got plenty of places to choose from. While my family has stayed outside of the heart of Gatlinburg for years, I quickly realized this last trip that staying downtown is really the ideal location. Most attractions are within walking distance of each other and that means no matter where you choose to stay in downtown Gatlinburg, you are going to be able to get where you want to go! They even offer a trolley system with many different stops throughout the area. It is a great way to get around town and see all that there is to offer. Rates are not bad either! At only .50 cents to $2.00 per ride, per person, the Gatlinburg Trolley is something you really need to take advantage of while in town.

The Outdoor Gathering Area
Even though you may have a day full of adventure planned in Gatlinburg, the Hampton Inn’s outdoor gathering area is one spot that you will not want to miss. This area is so inviting that you will want to make it back just to take advantage of this space. I felt like I was in my own backyard, but this time it was nicely furnished! I even had my own river to gaze at while listening to the water gently flowing over the weathered rocks. The outdoor fire pits were impressive, and provide for hours of relaxation among the bustling Parkway nearby. I could not help but think that this outdoor gathering area with a spacious hot tub might just be one of Gatlinburg’s best-kept secrets!
