Flora & Ulysses
Disney’s “Flora & Ulysses” is a comedy-adventure based on the Newbery Award-winning book about 10-year-old Flora, an avid comic book fan and a self-avowed cynic, whose parents have recently separated. After rescuing a squirrel she names Ulysses, Flora is amazed to discover he possesses unique superhero powers which take them on an adventure of humorous complications that ultimately change Flora’s life–and her outlook–forever. “Flora & Ulysses” stars Matilda Lawler, Alyson Hannigan, Ben Schwartz, Anna Deavere Smith, Danny Pudi, Benjamin Evans Ainsworth, Janeane Garofolo and Kate McCucci. It was directed by Lena Khan and produced by Gil Netter. Based on the novel “Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures” by Kate DiCamillo, the film’s screenplay is by Brad Copeland. Katterli Frauenfelder and James Powers served as executive producers.
Flora and Ulysses Squirrel Bridge
To honor superhero squirrel, Ulysses, and celebrate the release of the new comedy adventure, FLORA & ULYSSES, Bridge #7 (Fremont Bridge) in Longview, WA will be re-named the Flora & Ulysses Flyover. A large cutout of Ulysses in a superhero pose will peer down at squirrels and cars that pass by, and a banner with the bridge’s new name will hang below. The newly minted Flora & Ulysses Flyover is the longest of the famous squirrel bridges in Longview at 20 feet long. The bridge is a replica of the Fremont Bridge in Portland and was made by H&N Sheet Metal in Kelso, WA.
The renaming of the bridge took place on February 26, and will remain in place through the end of March in honor of National Reading Month.
