OWA Fall Festival
Located at the front entrance of OWA along Foley Beach Express is a family-friendly Fall Festival that is perfect for the little ones! At this outdoor Fall Festival, you can pick up a pumpkin from their pumpkin patch, let the little ones get the wiggles out on the bounce pad, or find your way out of a corn maze. You can also visit the petting zoo to see a baby kangaroo, goats, sheep, camels, and more or take a ride on a pony or camel.
This is what a Fall Festival should be, and this is one that should be added to your Fall bucket list because just steps away is an OWASOME world of dining, shows, and rides that you must check out.
The Fall Festival also features the Poarch Band of Creek IndiansTribal Exhibit that guests can walkthrough. Featuring authentic and replica artifacts from the Tribe’s history, guests can see what life was like hundreds of years ago for the residents of this area.
The Park After Dark
The fall festivities are not just outside OWA either! The Park at OWA has gotten in on the fun of Fall and has plenty of kid-friendly spooktacular events through November 3. From pumpkin painting contests to trick-or-treating, The Park After Dark is the perfect Halloween destination for your family.
As the sun gets ready to set every Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 7 PM, The Park at OWA becomes even more fun because they host a variety of kid-friendly events and activities. During this Halloween-themed evening, kids wearing a wristband can weave their way a hay bale maze where fun abounds. No wristband, no problem! Bring the little ones dressed in their costumes to trick-or-treat. There are plenty of stations throughout the park and beyond where they can score candy and treats.
On Saturday, October 19 bring your pumpkin from home and enter it in The Great Pumpkin Contest! On Saturday, October 26 you can enjoy the Monster Bash Costume Contest. To enter either contests you will need a wristband. To simply enjoy the pumpkins and costumes, no wristband is required!
So what’s a wristband at OWA? The wristband is what you get when you pay the entrance fee to the park. This wristband allows you to enjoy the rides. Not a fan of riding rides? The Park at OWA is one of those places where non-riders don’t even have to pay! The Non-Rider entrance gives guests unlimited, same-day access to The Park at OWA to enjoy the beauty and excitement of the park as a spectator. While you won’t be able to ride the rides because you don’t have a wristband, you can purchase things in Shady Arbor or Veranda, Parkside Gift Shop, and the Midway Games. This is just one more reason why OWA needs to be added to your destination list. It really is a vacation destination that gets families!
Do you enjoy getting your scare on? When I was younger, I LOVED being scared. I watched all the scary movies in the safety of my house, but one thing I wouldn’t do is go into a haunted house! Crazy, huh? I wanted to go, but every year I would talk myself out of stepping foot in one. Why? For lack of better words, I was a CHICKEN! Yep, I said it! Nothing more to it! Even though I would watch scary movies and think I am going to do it this year, I just couldn’t bring myself to go. I pretty much used the excuse that my kids were too little. They can’t be exposed to this.
Well, now that I have a few kids that are older and can enjoy haunted houses, I just can’t use that excuse anymore. So this year I made a promise to myself that I WOULD face my fears and go. After all, I brought my oldest daughter with me to OWA and I did not want to look like a scaredy-cat in front of her! I would never live that down for the rest of my life.
After our experience at Hotel MitcHELL, I know that I have been missing out on something fun! Yes, fun! Even though the scare factor is high, it is SPOOKTACULAR! Seriously! I regret that I was such a chicken about it in the past, and you better bet I will not miss a single one in the future.
The ambiance and music that fills Downtown OWA sets the mood and prepares guests that check in to Hotel MitcHELL for an experience to remember. From the decor to the actors, Hotel MitcHELL did not leave out one single detail. They put you right into the action! It’s like feeling as if you are walking through a scary movie, but you get the benefit of returning home to your family, unlike the poor souls on the big screen!
For those brave enough face your fears this Halloween inside OWA’s haunted hotel, Hotel MitcHELL, is open Fridays and Saturdays from 6 to 11 PM and Sundays from 6 to 9 PM. It is recommended for ages 13 and older.
As I mentioned earlier, the ambiance and music that fills the downtown streets really set the scene for a family-friendly spooky evening. You will notice Halloween themed decorations spread throughout the Downtown area such as a giant pumpkin that lights up at night. They even have the guest musicians and singers putting on shows Saturdays and Sundays and to help guests get into the Halloween spirit.

OWA is Waiting to be Discovered by You
We had an amazing time at The Park After Dark at OWA this Fall! It has all the fun of the other parks but far less of the hassle. It’s a little like visiting a local store vs. a big box store. With the great rides, fantastic food options, and most importantly, SHORT lines, The Park at OWA has something for everyone, and everyone can enjoy it without frustration.
