Chevy Bolt EV – Perfectly Fits Into Your Everyday Life

Living just outside the metro Atlanta area in what some would call the country has its advantages. Life just seems to slow down here. It’s a place where Sundays are meant for long drives through the rolling hills of the countryside to stop and dine at a good ole fashioned country kitchen for some comfort food. So when I was approached by Chevrolet to check out their first all-electric vehicle, I was a bit skeptical. How would an EV fit in my everyday life?

My day to day life involves going to work Monday through Friday and running all over town taking kids to classes and events. With it being fall right now, there are PLENTY of activities to keep our little ones engaged-trunk or treats, fall festivals, pumpkin patches, and so much more. Throw in a little grocery shopping throughout the week… You get the picture! This mom stays busy!

My mother has told me that I am just like my father. We get cabin fever and 2020 has certainly got me itching to get out. Weekends are just as crazy. I am all about making memories with those I love so we are always out and about. Sometimes we will get up before the sun rises and head out for a road trip-just because. So finding out if an EV can fit this girl’s everyday life was just what I set out to uncover with the Chevy Bolt EV.

myChevrolet App

First and foremost, I have to tell you how impressed we were with the myChevrolet mobile app. This virtual command center gives you seamless control of your vehicle – even when you’re nowhere near it.

You can:
Start and shut down your vehicle
Lock and unlock your doors
Activate your car’s horn and lights
Send parking reminders and with Energy Assist
Plan your trips
Check the Bolt EV charge status and battery level details

Chevrolet Energy Assist Technology

What is Energy Assist technology? It’s something that literally puts the vehicle right in the hands of the owner and I am not talking about the steering wheel either. Located on the MyChevrolet App, Energy Assist integrates the data from the vehicle which enables intelligent planning and precise charge time predictions all from the app.

Provides real-time data on charge station status to indicate if a charging station is available.

Allows owners to link their EVgo account to activate and pay for charging sessions right from the myChevrolet mobile app.

Bolt EV owners are able to review and rate charging stations within the myChevrolet app.

Charging the Chevy Bolt EV

I am going to venture that you may wonder just what kind of charge the Chevy Bolt EV has. As Chevrolet’s first all-electric vehicle, it has an impressive EPA estimated 259-mile battery range on a single charge.
Charging the Chevy Bolt EV is as easy as charging a cell phone. Seriously! When you are home, you just plug into your own outlets. When you are on the road, all you have to do is locate one of the 40,000 EV charging stations nationwide. All of this can be done through the myChevrolet Mobile App with Energy Assist†.

One thing you will want to become familiar with is the levels of charging. Depending on what your current battery life looks like, you will want to find a charging station that will give you the most bang for your buck (so to speak). We found the charging stations to be conveniently located in our normal day to day life experiences such as the grocery store and quite a few dining establishments we frequent on a regular basis.

EV Charging Levels

Level 1 (SAE J1772 120-volt) This is for charging with the standard 120-volt portable charging cord that come standard with the Bolt EV. This option allows you to charge wherever you can plug in, delivering 4 miles per hour of charge.

Level 2 (SAE J1772 240 volt/32-amp) Delivering up to 25 miles per hour of charge, this is the fast and most convenient way to charge at home or wherever you are able to plug in.

Level 3 DC Fast Charging (CCS/SAE) The fastest charging method available, the DC Fast Charging port can restore up to 90 miles of range in about 30 minutes.

Chevy Bolt EV Performance

Zippy! That is the word that comes to my mind when I think about the performance of the Chevy Bolt EV. There’s no shifting into gears and it easily gets up and goes quickly! It is seriously just like driving your gas-powered car minus all the harmful environmental stuff. Every single person we took for a ride in the car could not believe this was an EV!

One Pedal Driving

Have you ever heard of one-pedal driving? Living in a community where golf cart transportation is the norm, I certainly do. One pedal driving allows you to operate the car similar to what you would do in a golf cart. When in “Low” mode at any speed, you can slow down and come to a complete stop by simply lifting your foot off the accelerator. Now you might be thinking, why would I ever need to do that? For me, I found it was extremely helpful when picking the kids up from the car rider line as well as participating in the trunk or treat.

Another advantage of using one-pedal driving is it allows you to transfer energy back to your vehicle’s battery instead of losing energy when you brake.

Regen-on-Demand

Speaking of transferring energy back to the battery, the Chevy Bolt EV also has Regen-on-Demand. Ever heard of this?

Regen-on-Demand allows you to slow down your vehicle without actually using the brake pedal. With just a simple pull of the paddle on your steering wheel, you’re able to slow down which helps convert energy into more electricity and then transfers it back to the battery.

Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

New phone integration features available on select MyLink infotainment systems are CarPlay and Android Auto. Both applications enable phone users to display certain apps and functionality from their phone on the vehicle‘s infotainment display, allowing them to control those apps and functions via the vehicle‘s infotainment system touchscreen or voice commands.

4G LTE Wi-Fi

Talk about fitting into your everyday life, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi is just what you need to stay connected. With a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot capable of pairing up to seven devices, there’s no reason for the kids to tell you they can’t do their virtual learning assignments. They’ve also improved access to existing OnStar safety and security services.

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevrolet Bolt EV is beautifully sculpted and equipped with eye-catching details such as a new and improved grille that grab attention wherever you go.

I think the best part for me for a week was not having to stop at the gas station for fuel up! The only time I had to make a stop was to pick up a cold cup of crushed ice soda and a delicious candy bar. If you are looking to make the switch, check out the Chevrolet Bolt EV. You’ll probably be just as impressed as we were with this vehicle! AN EV might be a new idea, but it one that easily fits into your everyday life.
