Buttons, A Christmas Tale

There’s just something about the magic and wonder of Christmas that gets me every year. With the craziness of 2020, I have found it’s hard to focus on the holiday season. From the pandemic to the crazy of the world around us, leave me longing for the silver linings in life even if it comes from movies. Thankfully, I have discovered that “feeling” once again with Buttons, A Christmas Tale.

Buttons, A Christmas Tale

This magical story that shows believing can be the greatest gift of all. Follow the heartwarming journey of two orphan girls whose only wish is to find a home for Christmas. With a little help from their guardian angels (screen legends Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury), they discover that miracles really can happen when you find the power to believe.

From director Tim Janis, this inspiring holiday film for the whole family features an all-star cast including Jane Seymour, Roma Downey and Abigail Spencer, and is narrated by Kate Winslet and Robert Redford, with a special song by Sir Paul McCartney.

Buttons, A Christmas Tale Review

Be ready to laugh, cry, and cheer as you watch this heartwarming musical. At least that’s what we found ourselves doing. This uplifting tale follows the journey of Emily, an orphan that is rushed to the hospital with a fever on Christmas Eve. Her guardian angel played by Angela Lansbury comes to the rescue and begins to tell Emily the story of another orphan, Annabelle. Just like Emily, Annabelle has a guardian angel played by Dick Van Dyke. I truly do not want to give away the film but hang onto it to the end. It’s not that the film is not good, it’s excellent but you will cry so have your tissues handy!

What I really loved about this movie is how relatable it is. While it is set in a time that has long since passed, it does reveal the power of prayer and believing in the midst of trials. For me, I think this is what makes this movie even more special. Things are crazy right now and our families, children included, have seen some pretty rough things this year. Buttons does a beautiful job highlighting that even though we may be facing trials in our lives and the world, there are silver linings. Sometimes they come in the form of blessings we were never expecting. We just have to pray.

The good news is the film will leave you smiling in the end!
