If the journey is more than the destination, then I want to ride in comfort and style! Nothing reaffirms that more for me than my recent trip to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado RST. It left me with the feeling that I don’t want to go back to my real life in my normal sedan.
Gotta A Little Secret
I am going to let you in on a little secret. I have never driven a truck prior to this satin steel metallic beauty being dropped off and I was quite apprehensive. I’ve pretty much spent my entire life driving sedans. I know how to navigate through heavy traffic and hug the road when necessary. I can parallel park on a dime. Would I be able to do this? Could I truly navigate my way through the winding mountain roads of North Carolina? How on earth would I park this thing? What about getting through Atlanta traffic?
I was quite relieved to discover that I worried for nothing! Every little “what if” scenario that I played out literally ceased to exist once I got behind the wheel. Perfectly combining both luxury and power, the Chevy Silverado is a vehicle made for anyone! Seriously! Even a sedan driving short girl like me!
Duramax Turbo-Diesel Engine
Here’s another first for me- driving a diesel! Prior to this adventure, the only thing I knew about a diesel is that they can be loud and there’s a special kind of gas for that. What I found to be interesting is that the diesel engine in the 2020 Chevy Silverado was buttery smooth and full of torque. Its 10-speed automatic transmission shifted seamlessly as it maneuvered through the winding roads of mountain towns we visited.
She did more than that though! What better test could I put her through than heading to one of the most beloved spots in the North Carolina mountains – Chimney Rock State Park. Just 25 miles from Asheville in the Village of Chimney Rock and Rutherford County, this 500-million-year-old towering monolith that provides one of the most stunning views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. To reach the top of Chimney Rock, you have to drive up a three-mile winding road to a large parking area. To say I was nervous is an understatement! The curves are sharp and in some spots, you can’t see what is coming around the corner, but this baby did not miss a beat! She flawlessly climbed to the top so we could see this breathtaking view!
With an all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine, the 2020 Chevy Silverado is dedicated to efficiency and refinement. With more than enough horsepower, this diesel-powered half-ton beauty offers a satisfying driving experience! I was pleasantly surprised to see that we traveled nearly 700 miles before we even had to gas up!
By the way, do you remember the comment I made about diesel engines being loud? Well, that is not the case with the Duramax! This engine is smooth and relatively quiet. I was able to hear the engine rumble a bit but to tell you the truth, it kind of felt empowering – like I owned the road! I’m beginning to understand just why some people prefer a diesel. The mpg and the rumble of the engine command respect!
Invisible Trailer Technology
While I was not able to test out the towing capabilities of the 2020 Chevy Silverado, those of you that do tow a lot will be blown away with its invisible trailer technology available on various models. Using a camera installed on the back of the trailer that works in conjunction with one of the truck’s rear cameras, you be able to see an image on the infotainment screen of the rear of the truck without the trailer! So if you are a trailer driving person, you just can’t beat the added security of this feature!
If you have spent any time traveling through the mountains, you know that sometimes that means there is a lack of coverage. As a mom, educator, and travel writer, this can cause me a great deal of unnecessary stress. One of the best features of the 2020 Chevy Silverado is how it keeps you connected when traveling no matter where you are.
The smart technology even includes Apple Car Play and Android Auto so you can do things like make hands free calls, reply to texts, or find directions.
There’s Even An App For That Truck
Plus, there’s an app for that truck! Download the myChevrolet mobile app to stay connected to your truck from anywhere. It’s a command center at your fingertips! You can do things like lock/unlock, start your engine, set parking reminders and so much more.
My Overall Thoughts
The 2020 Chevy Silverado is something you must experience for yourself. While I may have been apprehensive at first, I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the truck again! Whether you are camping or even want to tailgate, this is the perfect road-tripping companion a girl could ever need!
