Elf on the Shelf Ideas

Elf on the Shelf!  I have to admit until a few years ago I had NEVER heard of this holiday tradition.  There I was 40 years old and never exposed to the Elf on the Shelf!  I also must admit I was kinda creeped out by it too!  I first heard of this through the students in my classroom and wondered what on Earth they were talking about.  After all, I had children and tried hard to keep up with the “newest” traditions to make the Christmas season as fun as it could be.  How could I miss Elf on the Shelf!

Nevertheless, here was a new tradition that had been born and I was not participating in it.  I wanted to do this for my boys but as luck would have it, my children were past the age for this cute holiday adventure.

So, I had to enjoy the spirit of the Elf on the Shelf through my students, peers, Facebook, and Pinterest!  I kept pinning away the ideas as I knew I would do this one day for my grandchildren or something.  Or better yet, I could provide great ideas to my children one day with their little ones.

Last year I did have the opportunity to participate in Elf on the Shelf through my classroom!  What fun it was!  For two weeks we encountered the mischievous ways of the Elf– three of them thanks to some wonderful parents!  I had the students write from the viewpoint of one of the elves.  The only tricky part was thinking of ideas that could used in the classroom!  See pictures below for our fun!

So, I have compiled some links of fun ideas that I thought I would share with you.  In addition, I do want to share that you do not have to purchase the actual Elf on a Shelf to do this with your child.  Any elf will do!
